Welcome Your Students and Teachers Back to School With Ease

    Last updated 5 years ago

Now that we are in the middle of summer, teachers around the country are starting to prepare their elementary school lesson plans. But these aren’t the only preparations to make before the start of a new school year! Teachers should also get their classrooms ready and prepare themselves for an exciting and productive year filled with wonderful lessons. These tips can help you welcome students back to school:

    • Create an exciting curriculum. Depending on the type of school you teach in, you may have certain regulations or guidelines regarding your curriculum. But you can still add your own special touch to the school year plans for each class. Florida Citrus’ website is filled with teacher resources and lesson plans that provide a fun and engaging way for students to learn more about the importance of citrus, the cycle of fruit growth, and proper nutrition.
    • Clean and organize your room. Make sure your classroom is clean before you start moving furniture. You can set up the desks, tables, and other students seating areas to create an open and inviting space that will welcome students in on the first day. Bookcases and other units can also be moved around for convenience. Put your desk in a spot where you can easily see all students.
    • Decorate and give your room personality. There are a number of school-related banners, posters, and decorations that you can hang around the room to add personality and create a more visually-pleasing atmosphere. You can also use your curriculum as inspiration for your classroom décor! Just make sure you don’t make the room too busy or distracting.
    • Prepare welcome pages and information packets for students and parents. You can also welcome students by writing a welcome letter to give them and read with them on the first day. Parents may also appreciate an informational packet that discusses lesson plans and upcoming field trip and includes a list of important supplies for the coming year.

Use these teacher resources to prepare for a fun, exciting, and successful school year with your students and their parents. If you want to find more helpful tips for a great school year, you can contact the Florida Citrus team today at (813) 379-2736.

Are you looking for Healthy Recipes to Share with Your Family This Summer?

    Last updated 5 years ago

Summer is here! That means you will have more free time to spend with the family. This free time also provides you with the opportunity to promote healthy choices that your kids have already gotten the chance to learn at school. You can easily do this by including the family in at-home cooking adventures and by using the knowledge they have learned at school in the kitchen. Try these healthy and delicious recipes with your family this summer:

    • Almond and Oat Bars. These delicious and filling breakfast treats can provide the perfect morning boost for all members of the family. Almonds are a source of healthy fat that offers protein and increased energy. Oats can help maintain a healthy blood pressure level and cholesterol level. Start breakfast by preheating the oven to 350 degrees and lining a baking pan with foil. Mix ½ cup vegetable oil, ½ cup honey, two teaspoons vanilla extract, and one large egg. Mix two cups oats, ¾ cup flour, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup sliced almonds, ½ cup wheat germ, ½ cup raisins, and ¾ teaspoons salt in a separate bowl. Combine the two mixtures and spread evenly into the baking pan. Bake for approximately 30 minutes.
    • Sunny Chicken Pockets. This meal combines the flavor and health benefits of oranges, chicken, and peas. Cut an eight ounce rotisserie chicken into pieces, and then add sections of two Florida oranges, and ½ cup of peas. Separately, mix 1/3 cup light mayonnaise, one tablespoon of Florida orange juice, and ½ teaspoon of grated Florida orange zest. Add the second mixture to the first mixture and stir them together. Fill opened halves of pitas with the chicken mixture and you are ready to eat!
    • Space Coast Smoothie. This refreshing drink is the perfect choice for a hot summer day. Add one cup of Florida grapefruit juice to your blender. Next, add ½ cup vanilla yogurt, two tablespoons of mojito or mint-flavored syrup, and four ice cubes. Blend your combination until it has a rich and smooth consistency.
